What is Jimsonweed or Thorn Apple?

Jimsonweed is a small shrub that can grow up to 1.5 metres tall. The leaves are oval and have a few teeth on each edge.

The large flowers have the shape of a bess and can be white or almost purple in colour.

The fruit is green, round and covered with tiny spines. The seeds are abundant, almost flawless and pale brown in colour. Most of its growth takes place on abandoned land.

Thorn apple has three health benefits:

1. To get rid of piles

When the plant's leaves are boiled and mixed with water or coconut oil, they can be used externally to treat haemorrhoids.

2. Used to treat rheumatic conditions that cause swelling and pain.

Crushed leaves applied topically can reduce swelling and relieve the pain of rheumatism.

3. Eye and ear problems

The juice that can be extracted from the leaves can help with earaches. The extract can be used to treat eye problems. The leaves are the part used. Use only outdoors.

Caution:

This plant can be dangerous. If taken by mouth it can cause hallucinations, drowsiness and general weakness. If used at all, only a doctor should tell you how to use it.
