WOOLFLOWER (COCK’S COMB) - EFFECTIVE FOR TUBERCULOSIS

CELOSIA ARGENTEA LINN
​The wild Cock’s comb grows in waste land as annual herb with smooth, erect, branches that reaches  upto a height of 1 metre. The leaves are linear to ovate-lanceolate. The flowers are silver-white, with a tinge of pink in erect or drooping spikes. It is rarely cultivated. The tender flowers and leaves are eaten in tropical countries as a vegetable.

Medicinal Use of Woolflower:

  • In cases of dysentery, diarrhoea, acute abdominal pains and inflamed stomach.
  • Heals wounds, sores, ulcers, skin eruptions and relieves itching.
  • In the treatment of tuberculosis.
  • Ulcers of the mouth and for tired eyes to clear vision.

How to Use of the Cock's Comb:

  • As an infusion, the whole plant is used for cases of dysentery, diarrhoea, acute abdominal pain and inflamed stomach.
  • For external use, the pounded leaves, flowers and seeds are applied over wounds, sores, and skin eruptions.
  • The decoction of the flower is given for treating tuberculosis.
  • The decoction of the plant is used as a wash for mouth ulcers and tired eyes to clear the vision.

Dose:

Normal.

Caution:

Women should not use this plant during menstruation.
