CARAWAY - IMPROVES TASTE AND EYESIGHT

Caraway or “Shiajira” is a commonly used spice in every Indian home. The plant is biennial which grows to a height of 35 to 60 cm. The highly segmented leaves have long sheathing leaf bases. The leaves towards the terminal part are smaller and less divided. The flowers are found on umbels which have about 8 to 10 rays with 1 or 2 small linear bracts. Carpels or Caraway seeds which are about 5 mm long are usually curved with prominent ridges.

Medicinal Use of Caraway:

  • In preventing the recurrence of diseases like malaria.
  • In preventing dysentery.
  • As an agent to expel gases, flatulence and griping pains from the stomach and bowels.
  • As an agent to expel worms from the body.
  • Checks inflammations.
  • To check leucoderma and abdominal tumours.
  • To improve taste and eyesight.
  • Painful swelling of the womb and for painful piles.

How to Use the Caraway:

  • The decoction of the seeds is used to take care of all the disorders listed under Medicinal use.

​Dose:

Use 3 to 5 grams of seeds in one litre of water. Use 3 to 4 cups a day.
