ARECA CATECHU LINN |
The
betel-but palm is erect, solitary, grows up to 25 metres high and is marked with annular leaf scars. The leaves are about 4 metres long with numerous leaf-lets. The male flowers are yellow, about 5 mm long. The female flowers borne at the base of the branch in axils, are over one centimetre long. The fruit is ovoid, 4 to 6 cm long, orange or red in colour when ripe, the pericarp is fleshy and mesocarp fibrous.
Medicinal Usage of Betel Nut Palm:
- A good laxative.
- Helps expel tapeworms and other worms from the body.
- Acts as good antiseptic.
- Promotes menstrual flow.
How to Use the ARECA CATECHU LINN:
- The young seeds are laxative.
- The mature seeds make good vernifuge.
- Powdered nuts are used as an anthelmintic and an antiseptic agent.
Parts used:
The seeds.
Dose:
Liquid extract, 1 to 2 dessert spoons in water daily. For powder, use 15 to 60 grams. For tapeworm: 1 to 2 teaspoons of the powdered nut with water.
