AMARANTHUS GANGETICUS LINN |
The
Red Amaranth is an ornamental plant that can be used as a herb that grows in garden and unused wasteland. It grows up to 1 meter in height and has alternate leaces which are purolish-red in color. The tiny flowers grow in cluster at the top of the stem and in the leaf axils. The seeds are very small, black and round.
Medicinal Use of Red Amaranth:
- It is effective treating acute pain and stomach ache, abnormal stoppage of menses and inflamed mucous membranes of the urethra and vagina.
- Cure chronic inflammation of the skin.
- Promotes flow of milk in nursing mothers
- It also act as a laxative.
- Softens inflamed parts.
- Effective medicine for boils and burns.
How to Use the Amaranth:
- A decoction from the root of the herb is used for acute abdominal pain, stomach ache, abnormal stoppage of menses and inflamed mucous membranes of urethra and vagina.
- Externally used a poultice, the paste of the whole plant applied over inflamed skin.
- The decoction of the root is also used for promoting the flow of milk in nursing mothers.
- The leaves of amarant and the root are boiled together to make a tea which I given to children as a laxative.
- The pounded red amaranth paste is applied over boils and burns to soften.
