Rauvolfia also spelled as
Rauwolfia is a very popular medicinal plant that grows up to 0.9 meters in height. The leaves are bright green in color and arranged in whorls of 3 to 6 and are about 7.5 to 18 cm long. The flowers are in clusters referred to as umbellate cymes. The flower stalk and the calyx may be red and the corolla, white with a red tinge. The fruit or drupes are purplish-black in color
Medicinal Use of Rauvolfia:
- Use for snake bite with little to no use at all.
- It is also use to remove worms from the body, checks high blood pressure, insomnia, epilepsy, melancholia, anxiety states, excitement, maniacal behavior associated with psychosis, schizophrenia, insanity and other mental disorders, checking intestinal problems, fever and ulcers.
- It reduce pain during labor and uterine contractions.
- Reduce colic or acute abdominal pains.
- For clearing corneal opacity.
- Treats high blood pressure and acts as a sedative or tranquilizer agent.
Ways to use the Rauvolfia:
- Boiling and extracting the essence of the roots will cure the first set of illnesses listed above. It also treat labor pains, uterine contractions, relieve colic, lowers down high blood pressure and also acts as a sedative.
- Rauvolfa juice from the leaves is instilled into the eyes as a remedy for the removal of opacity of the cornea.
