Bowstring Hemp (Sansevieria zeylanica) is a flowering plant that belongs to the Asparagaceae family. This plant is also called bowstring hemp, snake plant and mother-in law's tongue. 

It is a herbal-perennial plant and it is use as a border plant. The leaves are sword-like, stiff and smooth. Some of the leaves have marble patters while others are gold-edged and sometimes concave on the upper surface. 

The flowers are tubular, white to yellowish in color, that groups from 4 to 6 and scattered along the stalk.

Bowstring hemp strong fibers from the leaves can be used for making clothes, twine and paper.
