Kuteera Gum Tree |
It is a large tree often found in the hilly regions. It is easily identified with the white, smooth and papery bark which eels of easily. During the hot summer months, the tree sheds all its leaves.
The palmately lobed leaves which are velvety beneath and often found at the terminal parts f the branches are 20 to 30 cm in diameter The tree bears numerous yellow flowers which are found in clusters.
The fruit or follicles which are 4 to 6 in number are ovoid-oblong, 2.5 cm long with stinging hairs. The seeds are oblong and black in color. The leaves and tender branches steed in water yield a mucilaginous extract which is useful for curing pleuro-pneumonia in cattle.
Medicinal Uses of Kuteera Gum Tree:
- Effective for throat problems.
- Wounds, fractures, and orchitis which is an inflammation of the testes.
- Facilitates delivery.
How to Use the Kuteera Gum Tree or Sterculia Urens Roxb:
- A small quantity of the gum mixed with honey taken n the morning is reported to be good for throat problems.
- The pounded root bark is made into a poultice and applied externally over wounds, fractures and inflamed testes.
- A small quantity of the pulverized bark of the kuteera gum tree is given to women to facilitate delivery.
